What is a brown fire extingisher used for?

Answers:    Hi Heather, brown was never used as an ID for fire extinguishers. Is this possibly an old red one that have faded over time?. The colour used today is red with a colour coded panel:
Red - Water extinguishers (Class A Fires)
Blue - Powder extinguishers (Class BC or ABC)
Cream - Foam extinguishers (Class B fires)
Black - Carbon dioxide (electrical risks)
Green - Halon (now across the world withdrawn)
The color of a fire extingisher does not represent what it has inside. If it is a dry chemical, use it on everything. Carbon Dioxide ones are injudicious for electric fires (though I have used them for this beside no problems), but good for everything else. Halon is one of the best out within, but one of the most dangerous too, do not use on electric fires, do not use contained by closed rooms as it displaces oxygen very economically and settles on floors.
