what room would you use to hang family pictures with other wall hangings. i just moved to a new home.?
Answers:
Put your pictures in the living room, it's your family for goodness sakes! There is nothing wrong with displaying what is most important to you!! The reason I recommend it over the dining room is that You may want to avoid the possibility of flying food damaging any wall hangings, or of the distraction that might cause visiting grandkids to turn away from the table while they are eating ... ;) One strong and simple piece is all you need in the dining room.
In order to use all of your different photos and art pieces together in the living room, there are several interesting ways you can combine them. You can of course, select one frame type and create a wall composition with the different photos. Pottery barn has an elegant and easier solution to this type of system, where they use one hanging rod and then several frames can hang in rows down from the upper rod.
But you don't HAVE to be all matchy matchy. Select a few types that work with the rerst of your room; no more than 5 different frame styles. In your mind, picture these frames making up unevenly sized squares on a giant quilt. The wall is the canvas for your "quilt." Start by laying out the framed photos that will be the framing squares in a rectangular shape at the outer edges of where you want your "quilt" to be, and then fill in the rest of the photos so that there is no less than an inch between each frame. The arrangement becomes its own work of art and love, and showcases that which is most important to you.
I have done this for clients recently using a three frame combo and 14 different framed pictures. They love it...

Hanging family pictures is rather tacky. Best to just set them on tables, mantles, etc.
Do you have a long hallway or a staircase?
A memory wall is always cool using that sort of space. My sister created one going up her open staircase and it is lovely.
As for actual living room walls, I prefer actual artwork, oil paintings and decorative photographs. I use mirrors and wall sconce candles to break up the space.
For dining rooms, I like to use antiques such as old moulis, antique vegetable shredders, antique egg beaters, old items that can hang and be arranged on the wall.

At any rate, I love the look of these sorts of things on my walls in the dining room and/or kitchen.
Pictures go on the mantel, in the hallway (fi staircase) or bathroom. Don't mix the oils with pictures!
I would use just one wall. It is up to you if you match all the frames. I also use hallways & my staircase for family pictures:) Bet you have busy holidays!
I'd say perhaps in a hallway, it the living room would be somewhat... creepy for other visitors. They probably wouldn't go with the Southwestern style either.
Bathroom
You can mix and match your pictures in the sitting room I do.
i like to hang photos in all my rooms...i do like to have frames match as much as possible (at least same color or type of wood) living rooms are great but you could put some in your dining room just get some frames that have a southwest style. and yes you can mix with other art work as long as the theme is same good luck with new home.
Most people put pictures in their living rooms or bedrooms.
Frames should match your personality.
A home should reflect you. Decorate how you want not how other people tell you.
living rooms are a good place for pictures so are hallways and staircases. i have seen frames of different colors hung on the wall and they look real nice just stick in the same color family to be safe. one whole wall of pictures may be a little overwhelming. you can always try it first and take them down if you do not like it.
Family pictures should be in a warm, comfortable family room for you to enjoy as a part of your daily life. Where do your grandkids play? Where does the family gather for its time together?
Personally, I like more serious art separated, and in a more serious room for display. And it always creates a more "together" look in any room when picture frames blend in well with your overall furniture and color theme, although they don't have to all be identical.
if there is a family room or some kind of den, thats where I would hang them, and as long as the frames sort of match it doesnt matter what category you hang them with, be it oil paintings, etc.
Pictures grouped together in different frames always makes and interesting arrangement. I would mix oils and pictures in the room, but not on the same wall. I have even added a small decorative hanging shelf in the middle of my pictures "gallery" for several standing frames. I also have small decorative mirrors interspersed to add some light and interest to the wall. What is most important is how much you like the finished arrangement.
