How can I refinish my wood cabinet?

I have buoyant wood cabinets next to a clear finish. The finish has worn sour in places and I also want to alter the finish to a darker shade and different color. What's the best approach to finish these cabinets?

Answers:    Take the cabinet off the wall and remove adjectives hardware, sand them to get adjectives the old stain and varnish past its sell-by date making sure not to ruin any of the edges or nothing similar to that. Take a tac cloth and clean them making sure you hold all the sand dust bad , then you will hold your darker stain and stain them accoring to the manufactors recommendation, if you use a brush ( i dont recommend due to brush strokes) make sure you are carefull not to resign from brush marks. I other used a rag to stain. Thin once your stain is dry take your varnish and varnish them. Me if they are old cabinet i would update all the hardware, becasue if you are taking the time to refinsih them you dont wont matured hardware. Then rehang them and make sure they are stratum. And your done.
get a sander and dont dance too deep sand of the finsh after stain them to the shade you want you can find wood stain at home depot anyplace like that
but if i be you id pay packet a handy man to do this for me
I would recommmend also to sanding that you strip them too, it may look similar to the varnish or old top coat is gone after sand, but if you start staining the new color and everything isnt removed you are going to enjoy a blotchy finish and may make a mess to be exact not worth dealing with.
