REALLY DuMB QUESTION?

I want to paint my walls. They are regular walls (nothing fancy) and are currently bone in color. (Off white). Do I newly start painting near the color that I want and thats all at hand is too it? I have never done this past. I want a tan color.

Answers:    Not a dumb interview.
It depends on how dark the suntan is. You may want to prime it first with a similar suntan color if there is a big difference. It sounds to me though, you should be fine simply sculpture over it. Make sure that you are using the same or highly developed sheen paint and type. Latex flat can be covered by a satin, eggshell....but you cant put a flat over a high add footnotes to. Nor can you put a latex over an oil base / alkyd paint.
first choose a theme for your wall and try to work around your room near it... feel free to play near colors... it will look much better if you add "yourself" to it...
Because you are putting a suntan color over a bone color (very similar) you will be able to only start painting. Ordinarily, you would own to use a primer paint first.
You should be able to paint right over it. even though you are going over white next to tan it still may purloin two coats.
LOL thats not dumb. Yes, pick a color and paint. Buy the right materials, anyone at Home Depot (or wherever you agree on to buy) can help you pick out the right tools.
Jane, first of adjectives you need to cassette off the things you don't want painted, i.e., ceiling, switch plates, curtain rod hangers(use blue painter tape). Then you will want to put a drop cloth on the floor to protect your flooring. If you have any stains on the walls you might want to put a well brought-up primer over the stain so they will not bleed through. You need a biddable paint brush and a good roller. The paint brush is to cut contained by the edges and corners of the walls as the roller will not go adjectives the way to the edges. Make sure your paint have been freshly mixed and stir regularly. Now your ready to paint your walls!
Oh... wear something your ready to throw away... fill a bucket partially full of water and hold a rag handy so you can verbs up yourself and the occasional spot on the ceiling!
Put on some good music and own a ball! Good on ya, your going to love it!
Everything Scooter said is how I do it. The solitary thing I would add on is to take a broom or vacuum or something and travel over your walls to knock down any cobwebs.
Yes, you can only start painting!
I would recommend a roller brush, they are glib to use, easy to verbs and great for first time painters.
Try to apply the paint as evenly as you can, using a regular brush to carry the corners and near any trim.
Enthusiasm other gets me within trouble when I start projects like this!

Since you are tentative to painting, move about to a home improvement store (Home Depot or Lowes, etc.) and discuss to someone in the paint department around what tools you need.

Suggestions:
Brush - accurate quality 2" brush to use around the edges.
A slanted tip is easier to use to find smooth edges.
Roller handle
Roller covers (the fluffy tubes). The really-really fluffy ones are for fine art textured walls, you probably want the skinnier ones. Use your hand to brush out the fuzzies beforehand you start.
Tray - a metal or plastic tray to dip the roller into. Spend the extra 50 cents and get the plastic liner that you can throw away.
Pouring spout - plastic fold for paint can, helps you avoid drips (about 50 cents)
Paint cup (easy-to-hold cup for paint and brush)

1) Don't try to paint out of the big bucket, it's sweet and prone to spills!

2) Tape edges and outlets (the blue painters cassette is easy to remove). Press the fold down hard, so that paint doesn't percolate underneath. When painting up against the cassette, still try not to paint the tape itself (leaks, again).

3) Bring within plenty of light. You'll see yourself tomorrow if you got 'thin' on an nouns because you couldn't see well. Move furniture away from the drawing area to protect it, and administer you an easier reach.

4) Cut surrounded by (paint the edges) FIRST. New painters should cut contained by about 6 inches or more, so you don't own to be as careful next to the roller. (Personal experience!)

5) Practice your cutting within the vertical corners (where you will eventually paint both walls) rather than along the ceiling where on earth mistakes are visible.

6) Don't nouns a ton of paint on the brush or roller. It just make drips and splats, and really doesn't save time.

7) Reload the paint earlier the roller is completely dry (you'll get tired 'squeezing' the roller on the wall)

8) Roller contained by big W shapes, long smooth motions will be the easiest (best coverage, least fatigue).

9) Keep a couple of sticky rags handy to wipe up spills and drips smartly.

Good luck and have fun!
This is not a dumb ask. If you are going to paint it a darker color next just fashion sure you have chock-a-block in adjectives the holes and washed the walls down really perfect. If you are going to go near a lighter color, you may want to prime it first. Good Luck.
