This made me uncomfortable, too, and I flat out told my husband that. You are entitled to your feelings and I believe in being honest about such things. My husband and I had a huge garage sale and sold almost all the furniture he brought into the relationship. The few items that were left we either refinished or reupholstered to make it fit our decor. Then we had a blast picking out new stuff that better suited our style, represented us and who we are. He had no problems with how I felt and did not see it as being petty or jealous. He saw it as a desire to have our living space and belongings reflect us as a couple. Hope it works out as well for you, whatever you decide.

If it really bothers you and you have the money to replace it, fine. But, you may as well use the free stuff and replace it over time.

yeah pick your own stuff out
Personally I would gradually replace the things that he had that reminded me of the ex. But I would do it so slowly(and sweetly) that he would never actually know. That way, his feelings don't get hurt, he will not think you are being petty and jealous, and you get to pick out all the goods. Good luck to you.
