What color should I paint my livingroom walls????
Answers:
I think a parchment color or a beigy taupe would best compliment the decor you already have. However, I think you need to bring the ceiling down to create a more comfy and cozy environment. I would use a satin or sometimes called eggshell paint on the walls. It will give a little sheen, be easier to clean and tends to help pop wood trim.
However, before you go off buying gallons of paint, buy quarts first and paint patches of the color on several different patches of the walls. Watch what happens to the color in your environment as the sun passes during various parts of the day and what lighting you have in the room at night. Sometimes, colors look very different against your wood, fabrics, floor, window and wall treatments than they do in the store or on the paint chip.
As for the ceiling, once you choose the wall color, go one shade darker on the paint chip for the ceiling color. This helps get rid of that cavernous feeling that high ceilings can sometimes create, particularly in rooms with little furniture with dark wood tones.
Hope this helps!

I think it would look cool all in a matte, flat black.
But then I have it on fairly good authority that I'm weird.

If you are not looking for a splash of color as a contrast to the neutrals you already have, a complimentary color to those is taupe. But leave the ceiling white to maintain that height so it doesn't feel too closed in.
pink and the other side purple
Light, but bright yellow or light grey with a hint of blue in it should look good.
Khaki and blue go great with cranberry. I did my dining room in "Paprika", similar color, with a khaki on the top of the chair rail. the two look really good together. I bought waverly valances that look like an awning stripe int he same coordinating colors. A darker color will blend niceley with the wood too.
Just bring home some samples and hold them next to your furniture and wood trim to get an idea. Or some paint websites let you put the paint color you choose into a photo of a room so you can see what it looks like on your walls. You can change the color of the furniture too. A neutral tan color would look good too. If you go with a tan shade...do not get anything that has a pink tone to it or it won't look good (it will look like mauve) on the walls. My painter made sure I picked a tan with yellow or green undertones.
Also if you choose a tan color it won't have to be changed if you ever buy new furniture because tan goes with so many other colors.
Both cranberry and tan will make the room more cozy and warm in appearance.
