Kitchen Remodel.?
Answers:
i worked for a custom kitchen and bath showroom for over 4 years and there is also semi-custom cabinetry available. working with a custom design showroom can alleviate many of the logistical problems one can experience, as well as offer a variety of cabinet manufacturers to choose from, many being of higher quality than you'd find at lowes or home depot, and with the right designer, fits within your budget. some good quality, semi-custom manufacturers include Kahles Kitchens, Quality/Woodstar Cabinetry, and Hanssem Coorporation. Some higher end manufacturers include Luxor and Honeybrook Custom Cabinetry. You don't need to hire a custom "cabinet-maker". You are looking at a fortune there. From hearing customer experiences, I would call your local kitchen and bath design showroom, tell them what you're looking for and what your budget is and they will point you in the right directon. That is what they specialize in, so they would know best.

Go to Lowe's
Custom cabinets can be great if you get a good cabinet maker but there are more bad then good.
We had $9,000 worth of custom cabinets torn out and replaced with cabinets from Lowe's. They were better built, and looked so much better.

My wife and I just redid our kitchen. We explored both options, Home Improvement places and custom. I found the Custom was way outta my price range. Doing all the work myself i found that I saved thousands by taking my own measurements and ordering them from Home Depot. Brenda, the woman at Home Depot, was great and took alot of time to make sure that we got what we wanted. On a side note, we also opted for the Silestone Quatz countertop. tougher then granite and it doesn't need sealing! Hope I helped.
I'm in the middle of remodeling my kitchen too.I didn't have the money so I just painted all my cabinets [plus some I found at thrift stores] and put a blue jean treatment on doors, they look great and have a new life.
Quality wise you get what you pay for. I purchased Hallmark custom cabinets and they look and feel better quality but... they also cost me nearly double the stock cabinets my friend bought from HomeDepot (Kraftmaid I think). That said.... hers fit her needs and budget so depends on what you can afford/want to pay.
Here is the rule of thumb that you should go by......YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR......i.e. you buy something cheep, you get something cheep..
