Fitting a downlight?
Many Thanks within advance.
Answers: Tony, I would love to relieve you here, though you said in parenthesis, you enjoy, red, black & green/ yellow.....after you mention what should you do with the other black, red and green/yellow wires...Well, correct me if i'm wrong...but it appears as if you still hold ALL the same wires, and zilch hooked up...or connected...can you add any details?
OK, gratefulness for the additional details Tony...This is quit simple...since you said your topical ligth fixture has with the sole purpose two wires and both are white...This is easy, it really dont issue which white wire is connected as long as you dont connect it to the green cable with ashen strip (ground) I think if you verbs all the wires completely out of the fork box, you should find it attacted to a (bare)copper wire. Again, this is your GROUND.
1)connect one wht.flex from your new to any the red or black wire fom the T-junction box.
2)connect the other remaining wht. wire from your investigational ligth to the remaining red or black wire from the crossroads box.
NOTE: DO NOT connect any wht. wire of your topical fixture to the green/yellow wire from the T-junction box. You may want to attach the green/yellow to a srew on the housing of your new fixture for safekeeping, to prevent electrical shock.
One other thing Tony... if your project is here within the US, and your house was built surrounded by the past 30 years...it seem to me that you have a short red lead attach to a wht. wire surrounded by the j-box and possibly the black is also attached to a black, if this is the case you can remove them. after you will have a blk. and wht. cable comming from your j-box...this is the way the NEC is suppose to be. Hope this help
Good luck! And if you need further assitance please have a feeling free to email me for futher help!
Thanks, Bob
.There are other factor to consider, not just you choice to change your assembly room light ! If your house is a lately built house, then you must preserve the integrity of the ceiling, ie is it a fire rated ceiling(most likely), and the accoustic level must be maintained ie nouns penetration. So it is major what fitting you buy. Fire and acoustic fittings are available. Also you cannot newly abandon cable because you have too heaps, they are there for a apology, forming part of your lighting circuit. Check to see how your cable are connected, make a drawing etc. It is important you get the unknown connections correct, the black is sometimes used as a Live conductor. Get it wrong and you could blow the lighting circuit fuse/mcb, or worse get a shock from the street light fitting. My advice acquire an electrician to do the job, its habitually cheaper than buying the gear yourself, and remember you cant smell electric, see it, or hear it coming, but it hurts like hell !
GET A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN IN OR RISK SETTING FIRE TO YOUR HOUSE.
