What can be done with concrete floors?
Answers:
Hello,
Acid staining is the easiest and least expensive way to get the most out of your floor. The most bang for the back, that is.
Depending on the scope of your project, you may want to hire a professional. If you go that route, you can expect to pay between $2 and $5 per square foot for a stain and seal depending on where in the country you live, and assuming your floor is in good shape.
If you're handy and prefer the do-it-yourself route, you can find lots of good information in the forums at www.acidstain.com and www.decorative-concrete.net. The forums there are mainly for professionals, but a quick search through the archives will surely turn up lots of "I'm a homeowner, please help" questions and answers.
One final note is that unless you upgrade to a fill and microtopping system (add $3-$4 per square foot) then you're going to either have to live with the holes that your carpet tack strips left, or settle for a different appearance. How pronounced that difference is depends on several factors, mainly the color of your stain. (Darker is better).
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Dan

Go to Home Depot And ask about there Concrete floor options..
Concrete Floors can be painted. You can make brick or rock designs using sponges. There are also sealants (clear) for them. You can check at Lowes and Home Depot but they may not have a lot of color selections. You can go to www.behr.com and look at their 1-Part Epoxy Acrylic Concrete & Garage Floor Paint. I had to order the clear directly from BEHR as Home Depot didn't carry it. Just make sure you use something for concrete/cement. The other option is rubber floor tiles, or a new product I am trying is Resilia Interlocking Floor tiles www.floorsurfaces.com. This is a PVC product and seems superior to rubber. A little pricey but lots of design and color options. But if you get a leak or flood again, I think the product won't have to be replaced. You can ask Milo at the floor surfaces website.
You can totally have it stained. It gives it that cool New York brutalist apartment look that is totally in now. Have you seen HGTV's Dream House from 04? It re-aired in 05 as well. That's what they had done, and it looks great. It doesn't seem hard to do yourself, but it's something usually left for a professional. You can paint it, too, but that will have to be redone every few years or so. Staining will never have to be done again. You can probably e-mail the guy from Dream House himself and ask how he did the staining. His company is Studio H:T, and their e-mail is mail@studioht.com
If you have water intrusion, paints and sealers are the worst!
Use a cementaious product such as UGL Drylock masonry waterproofer or Zinsser Watertite.
