How to identify american chestnut wood sample?

I am currently living in a house built contained by 1916 I asked a local millwork shop to duplicate some of the trim he stated that it was pallid pine and unavailable would enjoy to be ash as asubstitute have since see examples pictures of american chestnut and seems more feasible any suggestions thank you


Answers:    Here are various pictures of American chestnut. My suggestion is to own another expert come in and look at your wood. Note that Amer chestnut and antique ash are not graceful to find.

MMM That is unconventional. Southern Yellow pine is available and fairly adjectives. It has a tight crumb.

The Ash would have a more uncap grain ( the particle looks like oak but the color ranges from intensely Blond to a chocolate brown. It is pretty hard

Chestnut would be nice, but would not meeting the yellow pine. It too would be undo grain and is strictly expensive. Most beautiful chestnut today is reclaimed. There is not a moral source for new bits and pieces as most trees in the US die bad early due to a blight.

How to identify Checstnut. A gorgeous creamy tan to brown color particle. Open grain ( you can see the pores) Older chesnut may own worm holes.
