Floors are tricky. It is tempting to use regular paint, but don't. It won't adhere well and might be too slippery. I suggest you get something specifically for concrete. There are brands out there. Ask at Home Depot or Lowe's. Also, like with any painting project -- primer is key. You MUST prime. Sure, it seems like extra work, but it is better than watching whatever you do peel off of the floor.

There are various colors for concrete floors available these days other than just slate. I have used both a wide paint brush, and a roller. Personally, I prefer the roller, as it tends to blend better. Unless you are very good at it, I would *not* reccomend a power sprayer, as it comes out very fast, and might be too heavy on one side, and too light on the other, in which case you'd have to get the roller out to fix the mistake. Brushes leave brush marks, and unless you *want* that effect, rollers are just plain easier.
if this is a garage floor, be aware that while ordinary concrete is porous, any oil or water dropped onto painted concrete will be slippery and need to be mopped up.
i used a wide roller it was fast and easy my kids even helped, and as we went we blew sparkle dust on it . it turned out really nice. this was in a bar i owned. have fun.
The best type of paint to use is an epoxy based paint, it bonds extremely well, only downfall is that it has a very strong odour & if painting a basement, make sure you have good ventelation & open all windows & It is also very expensive ... But the results are well woth the cost!
with concrete paint
Before painting any concrete, it is best to etch it with an acid for better adhesion.
I used dry lock etcher but i also believe Boric acid could be used too. Any Home Depot or Menards store could help with that.
After applying it, you leave it on for a half hour or so and then mop it up with water and let dry it completely.
Be carefull, this is acid, wear gloves and safety glasses.
Epoxy is best, but after mixing the two parts together, you have a short time to use it, so be ready to work.
My choice was the rust-oleum epoxy, they have epoxy for basements and Garages and an industrial strength epoxy.
The basement epoxy was not too fumey, but for my garage i used the industrial strength which its fumes almost knocked me out.
They also have paint chips that can be applied to the wet suface to keep you from slipping, but use sparingly, as they dont give you all that much. (Trust me on that one).
