Re: Is interior decorator & interior designer alike?

The answer is No. However they are similar, but not the same.
Usually a Interior decorater may work underneath a Designer.

Answers:    Interior designers are trained and qualified to work on issues related to a home's structure, like moving, totalling or removing walls. Interior decorators are usually limited to furniture and finishes -- i.e., the decorations of a project. If you're looking for an interior designer to sustain you with your home, you can find one through one of these professional associations: IIDA or ASID. Both enjoy web sites. If you're looking for a designer to work near you on a kitchen or bath remodeling or part project, I can suggest a third association: NKBA. This is the National Kitchen and Bath Association, to which I belong. We specialize in those spaces.
an interior designer is a degreed position. anyone can phone themselves an interior decorator. big difference.
