Does Ikea stuff make anyone else want to puke?

I got one of their catalogs and it was like gag me with a spoon! All that stuff looks so cheap and flimsy. I'm not into modern looking furniture anyways, the minimalist thing doesn't cut it, but why is that store so popular?

Answers:
It is not cheap and nor is it flimsy. There are a lot of quality things if you like that modern style. Personally I agree with you it is gag a maggot. I love the rich ornamental style and they offer none of that. The store is for yuppies trying to seek a certain rich image of sleek and fashionable. I can do better at Cosco.

Just like any store not everything is for everyone. The best thing to do when it comes to furniture is to go to the store and see the stuff in person. Some of there stuff might be cheap and made out of particle board. But some of there stuff is better quality and made out of solid wood.

Actually Ikea is higher quality than most people think, that is why it is so popular. My Kitchen was custom built by me with Ikea cabinets.
Because most of people, unlike you, like modern stuff I guess...I like IKEA design for instance, and it can make your house look very nice, without spending much...it is not the best furniture to buy for life, but if you are a student or you stay somewhere temporarily then it really worths it. Now, if your are into grandfather clocks and old type furniture....then it is not your cup of tea...
Personally, I love their stuff, the amount of space we save. I have 2 kids and the storage built into everyday furniture is invaluable to me. And their kids furniture and storage is brightly coloured and easy to use, my kids love it. My husband and I do plan to one day own different furniture and have already started collecting antiques, but for now in this stage of life, Ikea is great.
I agree - I went to the store in Atlanta - the quality is OK. It looks a little too generic and cold.
No
Yeah, it looks like cheap college dorm stuff to me.
well u were looin in a catalog but if you go to the real store it doesnt look as bad as it looks i thought the same thing but everything in that store iz not cheap cuz ive been there and it reminds me of a home depot cuz it has the home depot spell to the place but yea your right some of the stuff in the looks cheap and flimsy but maybe why alot of people go the cuz its cheap and they dont have to spend a lot of money!
They just opened a store in the Detroit area and I went to buy my 2 year old niece her first bed. A beadboard daybed that looked adorable. I was concerned about sturdiness because this kid is a wild thing. So I tested the bed in the store, all 210 lbs of me jumping on the bed. It passed.

Honestly, most of their products are pretty generic, and targeted to apartment dwellers. But if you do find something you like the pricing is good. They have some clever organizational items.

And ironically a lamp shade i bought broke when I tried to put it on the lamp. lol
