How to apply venetian plaster?

Venetian Plaster is a Behr product, not Ralph Lauren. RL makes Suede, River Rock, and Metallic products.
Ventian plaster is applied like this on a flat wall, no texturing or knock-down:
It's best to try your hand at this on a practice board before taking on the whole wall.
Next, fill the trowel with Venetian plaster. Behr makes a trowel for this application. It has rounded tips so it does not gouge the wall. You can make your own out of an existing trowel, just round the tips.
Next, apply the plaster starting in the corner of the room. You basically just want to slap it on there.
Next, spread the plaster on the way, with short, random strokes. The original wall should peak through, to give it that effect.
Then, let it dry for 4 hours before applying the second coat.
Apply second coat, the same way.
Apply Venetian plaster topcoat for maximum durability and protection.
Allow the plaster to dry 24 hours before burnishing.
To burnish, use 400 0r 600 grit sand paper in circular motions until you get it to the shine desired.
Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
If you want it even more shinier, like glass, use the clean, flat side of a steel trowel to burnish.
This product takes a bit of elbow grease, but the finished product is very cool looking. Works in any room.
Venetian Plaster runs around $35/gallon. Also available in quarts.

It is a slow process to apply but looks fantastic when finished.
You apply about 3 layers with a large putty knife or trowel
let dry between coats, then with the edge of your putty knife you rub the plaster, this is called burnishing. This technique is what smooths and produces a shine to the plaster. The more you burnish the smoother and shinier the plaster becomes. There are many colour choices the choose from. Good luck on your project!
