Why is good patio furniture so dam expensive??
Answers:
I would say it depends on how much YOU want to spend. You need to ask yourself " how long do I want to look at this or keep this furniture"? If your a person who likes change in their life, often...I would not spend much. The ones at Home Depot will do fine. If this furniture is something you want to keep for a long time then the more money you spend will buy you a better longer lasting set of furniture. The cost will be in the metal it's constructed of for durability and in the fabrics for weather proofing and durability. Once you start shopping around and talk to sales people you will start to get a good understanding of the product you want to buy. I would shop a range from the self help (Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.) to the better garden shops and even some furniture stores carry garden furniture. Something else you may consider, when you are shopping around and there are other people looking at these sets also, talk to them and ask them for their opinion and if they have tried other brands. To do this is not uncommon. You might also find a web site where you could look for comparability like a buyers guide.

Because people pay it.
because the cheap furniture tends to look cheap, or can't weather the storms. however, some patio furniture is expensive b/c it's sold by upscale stores and they have an image to maintain and project.
with all things, you get what you pay for. look at yard sales and stuff like that. HomeDepot, Kmart, WalMart all equal quality, which is to say, not much.
don't bother wit good caue after 2 or 3 year they all look bad so think replaceable -
Don't come crying to us, you cheap rich dude with your own patio. I live in a cardboard box. My heart bleeds for you...NOT!
Remember the ole adage, you get what you pay for......Look at lowes and at the end of the season alot of their hi price stuff goes on sale for 50-60% off, or buy the displays for less. Good luck to you.
1st-the perception that it is good furniture
2nd-life span, it's components will not break down in sun
3rd-popularity, it appears as more and more folks have filled up their indoors with stuff, they are now filling up the outside the same way, and going for the perceived premium product.
Look for good strong legs and good cross-bracing of legs to hold up to use. Fabrics that will take the rain and sunlight.
Plenty of good advice here.
If you go to Target they have all their patio furniture currently on sale.
