There are some design principles to get the effect you are looking for:
-Shapes are simple. Colors are often solid, especially in accessories.
-Colors are organic: creams, taupes, black. Also touches of vibrant colors like Chinese red.
-Find a square or rectangular tray. Spray paint it flat black. Put pillar candles (Tall thick ones) or tea lights (small fat short ones) in it.
-Whenever dealing with a grouping always use odd numbers. A grouping of three or five is a more pleasant balance than two or four.
-Add a fountain. One of simple design. And not one of the typical ones full of stones.
-Shoji screens are classic and beautiful. It will go a long way towards getting the effect you want. You can put it in front of your window, if it is tall enough, put your bed on the diagonal from a corner and put it at the head of your bed, somewhat like a headboard (you can store items behind it) shield your closet or simply put it against a wall.
-Buy a bamboo plant if you have some sun exposure in your room (especially the cool twisted ones).
-Use oriental calligraphy on rice paper framed in plain frames (black or red) on the walls. Very striking.
Poke around online under categories like 'Zen furniture' or 'oriental decorating'. You'll see examples you can be inspired by.
Have fun and good luck.
