Answers:
There are certain measurements for the rise and run for stairs. There are codes to follow so....you need to check with your city hall or wherever you get building permits, and ask if there are certain codes that need to be followed.
Other answers:
You need to check the building codes in your state to see the requirements for stairs.

Hi! AZ . I have a staircase that runs 10'. It's going to depend on what degree angle you decide on. I did'nt have a lot of room approx. 9ft. So mine is 14ft long 4ft wide, with 13 step high and eight inch wide steps. If you have more room make them longer, then the angle is not quite so steep.
Building Code - look at it closely! - that is where you should find your answer. If your staircase is not built to your locality's building code - your permit will not pass.
Anyway - don't just think about the actual steps - you have to consider the landing spaces at the top and bottom of the steps.
(Here in Ontario - the landing spaces must be at least 2'-9" square).
So, please, check your local building codes for the answer to this!
