Better to install a package unit HVAC system or a split unit for a 2400 sq foot residence?

My contractor recommends a package unit, my architect prefers the split unit. Not sure which to side with.

Answers:
when you say "split unit" do you mean one that offers zone control? if so, i agree with your architect. thats a pretty big area for one unit to heat/cool, you may not be too happy with your airflow. my advice would be to call any local ac company and ask to speak with their instillation coordinator and ask them the same question, saying that your intrested in purchasing it for them (even if your not)
bottom line, dont really trust any one of these guys, go ask an ac company for yourself relevant to air flow. they would be more than happy to help a prospective customer.
good luck

My location doesnt have basements so Im not sure of the pros or cons of split versus packaged. I still reccomend calling an ac company either way.

Other answers:
I think a package system would be cheaper in labor as it will only require one set of duct work to be installed.

Be sure to get a system that you can change the filter. No point in getting a system without a filter and it just blows dust all over the house.

Though the split units are cheaper to purchase and install, I don't think any of them are large enough for 2400 sq ft.
