what to expect on charges for ceramic tile work?
Answers:
Even with the measurement you give, the question is a bit vague.
Is this a reputable tiling/flooring contractor? Or a sub perhaps from Home Depot or Lowes?
You don't state the eventual total size to be tiled.
I charge approximately $3.75 a sq. ft. That can be less or more, depending on cuts, waste, removal of old flooring. For charity work I have installed for as little as $2.50 a sq. ft. on bare concrete floors.
The size of the tile is a preference of the customers. It makes no real difference to the installer. The tile is installed by the sq. ft., not the piece.
Assume your talking about 1600 sq. ft. of tile. I would charge you between $2600 and $3000.

You should have gotten an estimate FIRST. Without a written estimate, they can pretty much screw you for as much as they want.

Don't really understand all the information you gave but what I can tell you is that you should receive an estimate from the contractor before any work is done. If you have not got a FREE ESTIMATE then stop all work immediately and get another contractor!
