Resurface a hardwood floor in high traffic area?

We have a hardwood floor in a very high traffic area. The problem is we cannot close it for very long. Preferably just part of a day.
Is there anything we can do to improve the surface in this short of a period of time? I know it will not be as nice as a real refinish, but that will not work with the downtime we have. Is there some sort of urethane or similar coating that can just be spread over the floor?

Answers:
You can put a quick drying polyurethene on it and let it dry good over the weekend.

Maybe a rug would be better ;)

Other answers:
yeah , sand it, then 10 coats of poly

wait a day between applications to do it right.

maybe while you are on vacation.

if its really high traffic, then stone maybe

You really need to take the time to sand thoroughly and for the poly to dry. I recommend you wait until you're on vacation, a long weekend or something and can actually close off the area for a full 24-48 hours (you're not going to want to breathe that stuff in anyway!). Otherwise, you'll be very disappointed with the results and will find yourself re-doing it more often than you would if it had been done properly in the first place.
