Are venetian blinds and vertical blinds outdated?

It seems that on HGTV programs you hardly see designers using blinds any more. Are they outdated now? I like their functionality, but should I refrain from using them in a house I'm selling?

Answers:
If you already own the blinds, use them, they usually look really nice. But, in my oppinion, blinds are aestically not as pleasing to the eye. I also think that curtains have really become increasingly popular to people (history repeats itself)
But, also, I disagree with the sense of smell when selling a home.
The most memorable things that our brain recalls, stores that memory from a smell. Sense of smell is huge and works extremely well when selling a house to immediately grab someone's attention. The important thing is to make it very suttle, dont over power the person or they are going to think that you are trying to overpower another smell.

Other answers:
I don't think they are outdated. They are very functional so they will always be around.

I want to add that one of my sisters is a real estate agent. She told me once that you should never have cut flowers or anything like a plug-in air freshener or candles burning when you show a house because many people think you are trying to cover up something like bad drains or mold and mildew smells.

Heavens no! I just had a set of each installed and they look great. If you are going to sell the house let the new owners take care of their own window treatment.
Absolutely not, they're still used quite a lot.
TV designers are bunk!
HGTV has some marvelous decorating shows. However, they're also meant chiefly for people with a LOT more money to spend on decorating than the average Joe is likely to have.

If the blinds work for you, why not use them? They're still available in stores after all.
The wood blinds look good to me. Look more expensive and natural.
