what is a normal price to pay for carpet and installation? (per sq yard or sq foot)?

Southern California, rural town. New construction. 3 bedroom house, carpeting livingroom and 3 bedrooms.

Answers:
Most carpet retailers will contract with an installer so you pay by the sq. yd. for carpet and installation. New construction in So.Cal? Don't go cheap, you'll pay for it later. Get a product warranty and a workmanship warranty.

it varies due to the cost of the flooring. There are different grades the better the more you pay! And then theres the pad that goes under, its the same way theres cheep and theres the good stuff.

Prices should start at approx $30.00/sy on up. In my area many of the carpet installers are either Latin Americans or Arabic and we pay between $3.50-$8.00 per SY. The padding is one of the most important variables that insure your carpet looks and performs well for years to come. Don't pay any less than $3.50 for a good re bond carpet pad. A decent 60 oz face weight carpet(average quality) in So.Cal should cost approx $24 per SY.
