Has anyone had any experience with installing foam crown molding? Does it look good in person?
Answers:
I used to sell it, it looked so cheap and was cheap, look around they have much better molding out these days with corners already cut and mitered and cutting and hanging molding is really easier than u think

Just make sure your miters are correct or fill the gaps before painting.. Should look great..

as long as its painted (usually white) , you can't tell without touching it if its wood or styro. and its the only way to travel if your ceiling is circular. I'd recommend it
don't use that new peel and stick cheap stuff. There was a news piece on it on the local news. It didn't work well and looked terrible
unless you absolutely have to I would purchase and install the nonfoam ones.
If you're having it professionally installed, you should be fine. It's a bit tricky to install if you are not used to cutting foam and if you don't mitre your corners correctly it will look shoddy. You can get it either in a faux wood finish or paint grade (to be painted whatever color you like).
I am an interior designer working for a home builder in So Cal and we have installed foam moldings and beams in many of our model homes. People often come into our sales office asking where they can get the same work done in their own homes. They are always amazed to learn that it is not wood but foam!
