I would do something very light and airy that will give you both provacy and allow light to come into your room.
Probably a sheer fabric would be perfect.
I would hang them as close to the ceiling as possible
For rings, you can find really inexpensive alligator clips that are attached to a ring---they will be in the same area as the rods are in Bed Bath & Beyond or Pier One.
In one of my places, I put heavy eyelet screws into the walls opposite each other and then strung a picture hanging wire through it and used one of those metal pieces that is rectangular with a eyelet screw through it (sorry don't remember what it was called) to tighten the wire--after I'd hung my rings on it---it made a great kind of modern look.

First put some tint (car-tint on them) Can`t see in and block the sun but you can still see out, and then vertical blinds with valances at top.
I don't care for the vertical blind look... I have a slider and I have a decorative curtain rod with sheer (but not see through) panels and a pull back hook on one side to pull the panels back during the day.

use a decorative rod, buy some fabric curtain panels. Add the curtain ring clips to the top of the panels.Slide them onto the rod.The fabric will soften the glass entry and the rings will enable you to slide the curtains back and forth easily.If you decide to use the clips you will need a heavy curtain because if you use a lightweight material it will look flimsy with the rings attached.You can get decorative rods and rings at k mart and wal mart affordable
How about having mirrorized tinting put on them. Then just a decorative valance. Lots of light and privacy too.
