Do most people prefer vinyl insulated windows over the old style wood windows?
Answers:
The vinyl insulated windows clean up easier, mine can be released on the top and tilted in for cleaning inside and out or can easily be removed. The only downside for me is they sell them with only a screen for half the window. With the old double hung windows we had full length screens and could open the window from both the bottom and top which gave the house a great breeze - hot air would go out the top of the window and fresh cool outside air would come in the bottom.
To clean the old style wood windows, we had to remove the parting stops, carefully angle the window and pull out the ropes or chains attached to the weights, take the windows out to wash them and then put them back in or else someone would have to shinny their butt onto the window ledge hanging on for dear life while someone inside closed the window on their lap...the outside person washed the outside while the inside person washed the inside.
My vinyl windows are brand new, maybe I'll feel differently when they're 10 - 20 years old but right now I like them a lot.

I prefer vinyl windows. They are more durable and have less problems with swelling.
That's a definite yes. They are usually double glazed which cuts down on heat loss and noise.
They also require less maintenance. I was always painting my wooden windows, every year, mostly due to the condensation, that occurred. Since installing the vinyl, no more of those problems.
The vinyl, is very easy to clean, which makes them all the better to have.
Go for them, you won't be sorry.
