NO WALLPAPER! With different color paint in the same family, paint large overlapping block design on main wall, then pick one of the 3 or 4 colors used, paint the other 3 walls solid. Keep furnishings simple with clean lines, and remember to paint ceiling (should not be white)
clean lines. clean your surfaces. ie- instead of having 10 family photos on your mantle, choose 2 large and 1 small. arrange them together in a grouping. modern is the opposite of cluttered.
just use common sense w/ the furniture. nothing too ornate. go with simple and clean.
hope that helps!
buy stuff like a lavalamp , a futurustic lamp , painting framed with glass, pinlites, pictures of buildings and stuff, put somethin metallic.
There are a lot of different interpretations of modern, but basically they are all clean, simple and uncluttered. No ornate, curvy furniture or heavy stained wood pieces. Keep everything in either vertical or horizontal straight lines. Glass tables are nice in a modern space and large mirrors look good if you need the sparkle (not glued to the wall though, get a nice freestanding one). The fabrics should be basic, not too patterned or textured. Floating shelves look good in a modern space, as does black or dark brown wood and light furniture. Ususally lots of contrasting color is used sparingly.
