Lighter colors make small spaces look bigger. If the hallway is small leave it the way it is or just pain like a horizontal green stripe about mid way to bring the color in there. If the hallway is really open the green color should do fine.
it really depends on were the hallway is. if its right by the front door make it a dark sandy tan. if its deep in the house blue but with a strip of the green in the middle to help tye it in with the livign room.

Go with a bright color, enhances the size. Yellow, not recommended tends to make one sad and is said to make babies cry. Red, tends to be invigorating. Why paint the same color as living room? You want to divide these to areas. Why leave it in a traditional color? What color's are your favorite? Have you thought of a light violet/plum with silver trim? Have a suggestion for you if you don't mind, I have a website you should go to.
Both. Install moulding at chair rail height, paint the lower half the green color and leave the top half the white color. Match the trim that you already have in the hallway and the hallway retains its uniquness while blending it to its surroundings.
