I personally spend so much time here, I want it to be as comfy-cozy as possible and to look as good as possible. And we want it to reflect us...for ourselves and others.
To stay entertained
to feel like they made it.

People decorate their homes for so many reasons. For peace, for relaxation, for comfort, for attractability, for holidays, for seasons, and the list goes on and on. No 2 homes are exactly alike just as no 2 people are exactly alike. Some like chaos. Some like zen. Its all individual.
Aside from avoiding a dull home, decorating in some ways says something about that person. Decorating your home allows you to be creative and "do it up" your way without the crticism and bad commenting of anyone else. And hey, it's your house, you can do it up any way you want to. It adds style, taste, and sometimes theme to a home making it a warmer and more pleasant place to be.
They decorate it because it's their home, and they'll be living there for a long period of time. Usually when someone decorates their home, it's shows their personality, and sense of style.
To please ourselves. Our homes are our sanctuary from the stress of the world. It's a place where we can exercise control over our surroundings and where we are nourished...both physically and spiritually. It's a place where we need to feel totally comfortable and happy. Life works from the outside in...we start with success in our private arenas, and by doing that, we can establish success in the public arenas. Can you visualize a successful person going home to a sloppy house that has no thought given to its decor? It doesn't work that way.
A person's home is a refuge from the stress of the outside world. They decorate the inside so they can be comfortable, relaxed and happy when they are home. They decorate the outside because it makes them happy and other people enjoy it too.
I think its part of our basic human trait. Decorating can't be a just a 1000 year old concept. It goes way back. It goes to Neolithic age or even earlier. Archeologists find caves and other rocks from time to time that are being painted by our ancestors thousands of years ago. My opinion is that decorating a place where we live must have started as a way of being unique or to mark the territory. Almost all animals are territorial including “homo sapiens” (humans). That culture/trait must have taken different turns and twists over the years.
Decorating the home could have many reasons including…..
1.Showing uniqueness.
2.Showing off the personal taste
3.Self-satisfaction. After all…we are the ones who live in our homes and so we would definitely want to keep it in the way our mind/body/soul is comfortable.
There should be many other facts…I have listed just a few because decorating is personal too and with that being said…I can’t speak for others’ tastes.
