how about stapling on each shelf a small curtain (make your own with cloth showcasing a favorite design in tones of blue, maybe stripes or polkadot blue-white design? quick, easy, no-fuss, and hides everything.
if you are crafty you could make some sliding doors, or use a frame and add a piece of cloth or acrylic sheet or crystal, so you have finished doors...
