Can you paint the metal on lighting fixtures?

I have two wall sconces that are great looking shape/design wise, but they look dated because of it's gold/brass color. Can I paint the metal parts of these fixtures?

Answers:
Sure. Clean em good first with TSP (trisodium phosphate), then cans of metal spray primer, and a compatable top coat spray. You'll likely be taking away from the value of the sconces, but if they'll match your decor, what the hey.

You might want to consider using an antiquing technique for the finish coat as well (paint sconce with a dark color after your primary color has dried, then wipe off the high points while still wet -- looks sweet).

You could even go overboard & finish with acrylic accenting using a drybrush technique on the high points?

Yep, they sell aerosol cans of metal paint.
Go look in UR local DIY store 4 ideas & a colour more 2 UR liking.
I haven't trien this. I believe you can pain anything. I would sand the fixtures or use a bae coat that would seal an then put your color on.
Yes I have covered a metal lamp with a product called Rub"n Buff
It can be used on any surface. It comes in a small tube but really covers alot, I found it at Joanns Fabric and crafts in the paint dept.It was really easy and not messy at all.But I'm sure other stores that carry craft paints would have it too.
