Wondering about using a normal mattress on a loft bed?
Answers:
I have a loft bed.. but mine is very stiff/sturdy and I'm told it's good for my back... but I would sacrifice health for comfort anyday if we are talking about simple quality of sleep. So I guess it depends on a combination of decorative style Vs. health needs. I've never tried the loft with a regular mattress but if you can find a good one that fits and not sacrifice comfort as a result then heyt your ahea dof the game. Sorry I couldn't have been of a little more help.

As long as there is room for him to sleep it's fine.

usually a normal mattress will work on a loft bed if not get this thing called a bunkie board its like a flat boxspring that is commonly used on this type of set up
Every elevated bed (loft beds and bunk beds) must have 5" from the top surface of the mattres to the top of the safety rails. This distance will ensure that no bodys (or no kids) roll out of bed. Anything less than this will be dangerous.
If you already have the mattres make sure this distance will be respected.
You ca find great loft beds and bunk beds at a very good prices at www.kidzthings.com
I hope this helps
legally speaking the top mattress can not be any thicker than 8 inches top provide effective space for top rails to stop a child from rolling out. If the child is old enough I would not worry about it though
