Where can I go to find out about replacing light fixture, needs to be moved. It is not in the right place.?

Would like it to not be so close to the wall and more centered in that area of the room.

Answers:
It is not that difficult.

TURN OFF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER NOW!

Most light fixtures are fixed to the electrical box above the ceiling with just two screws. Unscrewing them will allow you to remove the light fixture.

Typically you have 3 wires. Black for power, White for neutral, bare or green for ground. They are connected to the fixture with a twist nut. Undo them by turning it counter clock wise. They will completely come apart.

Now, go to the attic and locate the fixture. Normally, they are nailed to the joist or screwed in. Undo them and move it. You'll have to create a new hole on your ceiling. You also have to cover up the left over hole.

Another way to do this is to purchase the same box at the home supply store and feed the wire from the new one to the old. You connect the wire exactly the same color to same color in the original box, and use a twist nut to secure it. Cover the box with a blank plate. (available from home store)

Now, do exactly the reverse at the new location to install the light fixture.

To use the twist nut, strip the wire, twist the wires together and twist the twist nut clock wise until it no longer turns.

I really can't explain all of this by just typing. You may want to buy home repair books at the book store, and go talk to people at home store like Home Depot or Lowe's.

If any of this is overwhelming to you, contact an electrician. It shouldn't be that expensive to have it done. Always, always turn off the circuit breaker before you do this, and don't work alone. 120 Volts can kill you, contrary to popular belief.

You have to remove it, patch the hole, cut a new hole, and brace the fixture as it was in the old hole. It's not rocket science, but turn off the power, so you don't kill yourself.
HGTV, Home Depot or Lowe's. I know that Lowe's and Home Depot offer classes on how to fix yourself and they can help you to determine where the best place to put your light for your room.
