How much does it cost to turn a garage into a living space?

it really is all a very individual matter, if you used electric baseboard heat the heat instal would be reasonable. i suppose you would need interior walls, drop the ceiling or put up a drywalled ceiling? it will be a few thousand at least, it really matters a lot what you are trying to do with the space, if it needs heating or cooling it will cost more and if it needs plumbing and wiring it will add cost, if you are just making maybe a game room, its the wall surfaces, the floor surface and lighting that you mainly deal with and you could do it for less, i would say start with doing whatever you are doing to the floor, raise it? cover it? paint it? then go from there to ceiling if it needs work, lighting or wiring, then paint, are you changing windows and doors? if so maybe you should do that first of all. so much can add expense and i really dont know what it is you are going to do.

It could be cheap, but I figure you'll need to put in insulation as well, as garages traditionally don't have any, so it'll get rather cold and hot in there without some.
Also, why are you considering this? Do you have a place to park your car? Depending on where you live, sometimes it's better for the car to have a place to stay too :)

first of all you have to see if you can get a permit for that. alot of places will not let you turn garage into living space. so the first thing you have to do is see if you can get a building permit for that
