Can a hallway be painted with 2 colors?

Darker color on bottom, lighter on top w/ molding to separate? This hallway is not overly wide, so I'm concerned. But it extends right off the living room which I plan to paint two tone. Not sure where to end the living room paint w/o looking silly unless I continue the color down the hallway. Any suggestions??

Answers:
Of course it can! We did that with our living room (dark green on bottom, off white on top), with chair rail in between with a pre pasted border underneath. it gave the room a very nice look.. we liked it so well we extended it down the hallway.. since we didn't have the chair rail down the hall, we used just the border and it looks great!
Good Luck and happy painting!

YES! but not if they don't match. Plus, matching colors create certain feelings. If you match red and yellow, an angry or eccentric or fun ambience can be attained. It depends... bright yellow and bright red would seem angry or eccentric, but pastel yellow/red would be fun. What two colors are you thinking of?

that sounds like not a bad idea actually. The horizontal lines will make the hallway seem longer and wider.
IT THINK IT WOULD LOOK GREAT
Sure you could. Be careful, though--a hallway is really susceptible to visual effects. The molding (or chair rail) might visually cut the space in half.

You might be able, also, to end the molding with a return miter at a corner, and then start just one of the colors or the other. That would still lend continuity to your scheme.
You could do that, but given the tight space I agree that the horizontal line might not give you the effect you're looking for. From a decorating standpoint, have you considered the overall look you're after? I would take a cue from the predominant color in my decorating scheme. Say, you have chosen the bluish grey and flooring and window coverings. If you carry this into the hallway it will visually extend the space. The same would hold true using the taupe.
