How can metal storage cabinets be made to look better?
Answers:
Need a new paint job, Rustoleum spray paint comes in a variety of colors and is specifically made for metal. If you have rusted areas these need to be cleaned with rust remover, then sand smooth and wash the cabinet, wait 24 hours for it to dry and then use the Rustoleum spray paint in a well ventilated area, this not only gives you the fresh look you wanted, but also protects from any more rust erosion. However, if you have rust spots that have already eroded many holes through parts of the cabinet, it is best to scrap them and get new cabinets.

put them right next to cheap plastic ones!!lol well, one thing you can do if you are not very expirienced with shining is to paint them.it could be the same shade, or it could ba a contrast that makes it look good against the room.if they are bent, you could take some pliers(however its spelled) to them.

paint them
First, no matter what you decide to do, sand them smooth with a find grit sand paper and wash really well to remove any gritty particles. The rest would depend on where you want to put them. I've seen old lockers and military bunks painted in bright primary colors for childrens rooms as well as a little girl's room done really cute with butterflies in pastel colors on the wall and foot lockers and metal shelving painted in pink, lavendar and yellos from the curtain print. In other parts of the house, neutral colors can almost make them disappear into the background. You can even try one of the faux finishes on them. Whatever you decide to go with, it's very important to properly prepare the surface and make sure whatever finish you apply is washable. Hope this helps.
You got some great answers. Sometimes no matter what you do with something sort of old and ugly, they will still look old and ugly. How about :
Main Entry: de·cou·page
Variant(s): or dé·cou·page /"dA-(")kü-'päzh/
Function: noun
Etymology: French découpage, literally, act of cutting out, from Middle French, from decouper to cut out, from de- + couper to cut -- more at COPE
1 : the art of decorating surfaces by applying cutouts (as of paper) and then coating with usually several layers of finish (as lacquer or varnish)
2 : work produced by decoupage
- decoupage or découpage transitive verb
I have seen it done on old wooden trunks. Could use newspaper articles.
