I am painting the interior of my apt. Anytips on keeping the paint even, doing corners, etc?
Answers:
ROFL.. Golly, I love the answers you have gotten. I have been a painter for 20 years, and these are some silly answers. The "board" that other answer refers to is "baseboard/decorative trim" If you have tape, and are unsure of your hand being steady enough to cut in the ceiling and basboards, use the tape. Corners are simple. Use your brush to gently "push" the paint into it. Take your time, and be patient. It takes years of practice to get good at cutting in. Paint is VERY forgiving, it you make a mistake, it is easy to fix it with touch up paint.
Cut in all corners of the room, floor to ceiling, then the ceiling, then the base boards, or floor, with a brush. Be sure to roll the wall before the paint that you have just cut in dries. Otherwise it will leave a line in the end result. (This is called leaving a "wet edge") My best advice is to take your time, get some beers, and enjoy yourself. If you are as picky about your walls as you claim to be, hire a professional. Or, go to your local bar, and find a painter that will be willing to give you a good deal on the work done. You can ALWAYS find a painter in a bar. =]
Other answers:
Don't skimp on paint. Fill the roller with paint, then roll a nice big 'N' on the wall (about 2-3 feet high and wide) then fill in the gaps. Repeat next to it. Then go horizontally to even the two squares together.
As far as corners, use a corner pad first to paint it. Then with the roller, get as close to the edge without scratching the opposing wall. For roof edges, use an edge trimmer.
The best advise, however, is to beg and plead someone who knows how to come over and help you. Failing that, offer your help to someone who knows how and is painting one of their rooms. Watching an expert is the best practice you can ever get.
Also, consider practicing somewhere inconspicuous. The first room I ever painted was my garage. Given that you are in an apt., you may not have one, but you can practice by painting a closet.
(Side note: Most of the work happens before you even start painting. Make sure you patch up any holes and cracks and sand it all smooth before you start. A sloppy surface will result in a sloppy end product. You can't paint over defects.)

Use a Roler other wise you might get brilse marks in the Paint, secoundly line the edges with about 2 inch of Masking Tape so you dont get paint on the roof, cover teh floor in lots of newspaper so you dont get paint on teh carpet and fonaly if you have a board running along the bottom of the wall paint it the same colour as teh roof (Makes a good Impression and looks Good) also when you are painting teh roog (if it is flat) use a roler not brush again and then line the top of the walls with making tape so as to not get paint on the walls (after the paint on walls has dried :D), now you will have nice crisp edges and look liek it is profetionally done. oh yeah alos use colours that you liek since you will live ther and also make sure they are not to vibrant as it might put of your visitors if any come... :D
Take Care
and
Happy Painting
BTW. egde trimers dont always work they might get paint onto teh roof big splodges... that what happend to me the first time i used them.
its perfect in use if you put a thick sticky tape around the wall .... like this .. when u paint even on the tape it doesnt matter coz when it dries you remove the tape n it stays neat! its also preferable to use a thin brush for the hard corners!! another advice put as many newspapers on the floor in order for you not to scrub the paint off the floor when ur done ! make ur life easier :)
