I'd have lighting in all those areas.

Can lights and indirect lighting with accent lamps may create the mood you are looking for.

you try reset lighting..........or floor lamps or any kind of lamps ........reset lighting is very popular these days..........try these.....good luck
You need a combination of three types: general, task and accent lighting.
My suggestions:
BEDROOM:
General - recessed / mounted halogens or full-spectrum fluorescents will give you an overall warmth. Get 'em with dimmer switches.
Two lamps - one on bedside table, one large uplighter somewhere about 5 ft. from the bed, will create a nice ambience for ummmm, other bedroom activities.
If it doesn't clash like hell with your decor, try to track down a bamboo & shoji paper lamp. (Very cool, adds a real personality to a space, works even with modern, minimalist decor.)
KITCHEN:
Sorry, I'm pretty hardline on this - white energy-saving fluorescents all through. Gives dead-on colour reproduction (your turkey isn't quite cooked yet, ma'am. I know that, because there's no yellow tinge anywhere to fool my eyes.) And they are the most economical to run (kitchen lights are on a LOT, in my experience.)
Try round fixtures & large circular recess-mounted bulbs for the ceiling, so it doesn't look too harsh. Plan your countertop lighting so that you can fit strip lighting inconspicuously (hidden under cabinets, etc.)
RECEPTION:
Recessed halogens or full-spectrum fluorescents will be your basic backdrop. Maybe track lights or halogen spots if you've got nice paintings or other decor you want to accent a bit. Wall sconces near key features also work well.
If you're really bold (haven't been to your house, so I don't know), try a single, large and striking fixture dead centre in the ceiling. Gives visitors a nice surprise as they walk in.
Maybe (be careful here, it could be horrible - leave it to your aesthetic judgement!) an actual small chandelier, perferably a modern pendant or, if it works with the decor, even traditional.
Hope that helped!
