How do you get rid of cigarette odors when repainting a room?
Answers:
I doubt if the tobacco odor is from the freshly painted walls, more likely from the carpet and any fabric items in the room. Throw pillows, sofa, chairs and drapes. Fabric really holds that smoke smell. Clean the carpets, furniture and drapes that should take care of the smell. It might not hurt to check the air vents either! If the furnace filter is supposed to be a permanent one, you may have to have it replaced as it's probably covered with nicotine yuck!
Other answers:
the best way to kill, or remove cigarette smoke in a room is to have three to five bowls of bleach in the room. If you have to change the bleach once a every three days.

check out aproduct called oderxit
Wow, this sounds like a really bad case. I would clean walls and windows and ceiling multiple times with disinfecting and deodorizing cleaner. You might go to your local janitorial supply store and ask them for product recommendations. When repainting it can help to put a little pure vanilla extract in the paint. If there is carpeting, pull up the carpet and the padding beneath it, replace it. Continue to air out.
Cigarette smoke is very invasive isn't it?
Good Luck
You must have one hellava sniffer. I would suggest cleaning your walls and floors with a 50/50 bleach solution(preferably Clorox brand). If you have not already painted the walls, after cleaning with the bleach, prime your walls with a paint primer such as Kilz before painting. If that doesn't work get over it or move.
There is a product call PaintPourri. it is an additive that you mix with paint. It comes in 8 fragrances, and will last for up to 12 months. i will be a little strong when you are painting, but will be a pleasant aroma after the paint dries. try your LOCAL paint store, they should have it. it retails for around $4, and one pouch treats 1 gallon of paint. if you can't find it, email me, and i will sell you a pack, i will just have to charge extra for s&H. sealspnt@shentel.net
try white vinegar- it removes many stubborn odors.
To get rid of odor and stain you have to paint with a good stain killer since your dealing with the worst of stain and odor.
I suggest as a professional Sherwin Williams Under-coater which is around $ 27.00 a gallon some use Kitz its $ 10.00 a gallon but the better the product the less you have to re-paint in the future.
Kitz is owed by Sherwin Williams they did buy them out which is sold at Wal-Mart and also is backed by warranty its just a med grade primer when it come to cigarettes stains.
Than repaint with a finish coat color of choice.
Use this spray called Approach. It's water-based so it's safe to spray anywhere water is, including the air, carpet, walls etc. It's an enzymatic catalyst and it will completely eliminate the odors in the room. Just spray till the odors go away and they'll be gone permenantly. You can find it online.
We used it when we bought our first house from a smoker and it saved us from having to pay for new walls and floors!
Good luck!
