Looking for framing detail to install soffit to ceiling for cabinets?

The ceiling has drywall installed. Thinking i may have to remove it to get good connection to framing

Answers:
just secure a 2x2 to the ceiling and the top of the cabinet and them fasten your drywall to it. Make sure that the face edge of the drywall if flush with your cabinet face and the 2x2 on the ceiling are plumb with the cabinet.

Other answers:
No, you don't have to remove the drywall as long as you have nailer behind it (joists run perpendicular to cabinets). Just use a long fastener like a 16d nail or 3" drywall screw. And if helps you sleep at night, use some construction adhesive. The soffit is just a finish detail, not structural. It only has to support it's own weight.
