There is a device made specially for removing popcorn ceilings. It have a long handle near what looks like a metal rectangle on the extension. If you go to any hardware store they'll know what you're discussion about. Use this next to a spray bottle of water. I attached a plastic backpack to the end of the touch so I didn't even have a mess to verbs up afterwards. It took me about 15 mintues to do my bathroom ceiling (fairly polite sized area).
