a room that is approx. 400sqft. I need to put tiles of 18" x18" in the room. how do i find the # tiles needed

Just kidding - each tile is 1.5 ft per side, or 2.25 sq ft, so you need at least 178 tiles. Better go with 200.

tiles are 18" by 18" right, thats 1.5 by 1.5 foot right? ya with me? now 1.5 x 1.5 gives us 2.25 square foot per tile. room being 400 square foot, diveded by the tile size gives us approx amount of tiles.

buy yourself 200 just to be safe, there will be breakages and funny corner bits to fill in and stuff

Exactly what the others said for dimension, but get the tile company to cut odd sized ones for you, or rent a machine from Home Depot - they will give you a tutorial about how to use it, or get a friend to help who has experience - that might cut your tile needs down to... let's say.... 179? ha ha
