What is the time and cost to install a skylight in SF Bay Area?
Answers:
Not familiar with SF handyman costs.
But as for the time it will take, it depends on your roof, kitchen, and attic. Complicating factors will include the pitch of the roof, height (2 stories?), what is in the attic, how accessible is your attic, duct work in the way, electrical conduit, vent plumbing, which way do the joists in the ceiling flow, what kind of shingles do you have, etc. etc. And, of course, how large of a skylight are you looking for?
A typical sized skylight, with reasonable access to attic and roof that doesn't involve electrical/plumbing or HVAC re-routes with garden variety asphalt shingles, nothing in the attic, for someone that knows what they are doing and has all of the materials already is going to kill half a day -- not counting follow-up drywall spackeling and painting. You are likely looking at a $1K+ job for the whole thing. Easily doubled with any complicating factors. Add a premium for the SF factor.
Hope that helps.

Here's a site that includes window installation, which I imagine would be around the same cost: It doesn't say anything about timeline, though.
