As a rough guide, how much would it cost to install central heating (8 radiators) in a 3-bed terrace?

Well I just had (only) a new (gas) BOILER fitted (plus one extra radiator) - by British Gas - £4,000. Just to give you an idea. Probably cheaper not to go to BG!

well i think its about 2-3 thousand cud be less coz they have alot of work like taking up the floorboards etc it maby less but u cud try and phone a company like british gas and see how much they would charge or just look in phone book for central heating installers see wot they charge till u find the best deal for you

Your boiler will cost around £800-£1000.
Rads will cost around £30-£50 each.
I would estimate total cost around £2000 including labour.

Depending on the boiler & fuel type you'll be looking at around £2k. Last time I had it done I asked 5 companies for quotes and there was quite a variation. I watched them put it in, now do my own except the connections to the boiler which has to be done by a Corgi registered fitter - things are a lot easier now using plastic push-fit pipework, doesn't take a real expert.
Including a boiler you have to decide on a conventional or combi model.
Avoid British Gas as they are expensive. Employ a Corgi registered heating engineer.
Companies and franchises tend to be more expensive than a 'family' business.
Read Yellow Pages and choose at least FOUR from which to receive quotes.
Listen to the sales patter and make a judgement whether or not you trust the person concerned.
Make sure you have a firm price and a firm date for installation. Some will take the order, promise a date and once they have a deposit they will trot out any excuse to delay matters.

I think about £2,000+ if you have a combi boiler as the other answers have said get a few quotes consider! if they ask you were the radiators will go or they give you no choice and they fit for the easiest!
about £2500 - £3000, all in, including your programmer and thermostat, I'm a spark and I sub the electrical side of heating installations for a company in england/wales.
hope this gives you a fairly good idea of what to expect, about 3/4 days for the plumbing work, then another day for the wiring, this is all dependant on the shape of your house, and the positioning of where everything will go,
oh, and make sure tyhe company doing the work will provide you with all your relevant part P paperwork, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, other wise you will be in BIG trouble at some later stage, you work will be in fact deemed ILLEGAL,
I can't remember the exact cost when we did ours and ours is a three-bed terrace. I think it was either 1500 or 2000, it may have even been 2500. I would look in the yellow pages and ring round for quotes.
