what should I paint the family room?

Have navy blue leather furniture. It's a big room with lots of windows on one side, no windows on the other, brick fireplace. I would rather not do red. It is currently berber wool colored ( an off white/beige color?) carpet is also beige. I have looked on line at all the online suggestions, nothing clicks. Thanks for ideas

I'd recommend a tan or brown color that is darker than your carpet. A greyish brown could also work or kind of a sand color. The important thing to remember is to use a darker color than what your carpet is since your carpet is a light color. That will help to make your carpet and furniture pop out and look great. I don't recommend red or green or yellow. A medium grey color might possibly work. I like a color by Behr paints called Blanket Brown but that may be a little too dark for what you're going for. Another suggestion I would make is to get a piece of cardboard about 12"x12" and buy a quart of whatever paint you like best. Paint the cardboard and stick blue paint tape on the back of it. Stick it around different portions of the room in bright spots and shadows, beside different main pieces in the room and look at it in different lighting situations, in daylight, at dusk, at dark with the lights on, etc. A paint will also look different with an incandescen light than it does with flourescant light. Live with the color for a couple days. If you still like it after a couple days, you know you've found your paint color. I also recommend using satin instead of a flat paint. It costs more, but it's worth it.

Your house seems very nice. You can do white but if your looking for a different color than maybe a wheat color it really i think depends on the type of blue you have.
A subdued gold color.
I have blue sofas and a red brick fireplace and the colour Tappestry Thread by Crown Period Colours looks rich and cosy :)
How about a light blue or light yellow I would realy go great with that navy furniture.and try some paint with a gloss, It's easy to wipe off if you have children.
Arabian Sands, a neutral color.
Watch on hgtv channel the program "Get Color" or view their ideas on www.hgtv.com and click on get color.I would suggest a pale blue for the wall or you could go with a green.you know navy and green go well together. You can use dark rich colors with a large room with lots of windows it makes the space feel cozier.
