I painted our dining room with a shade of yellow w/ a green wallpaper at the bottom and really looks great. The Living room with a forest green; everybody likes it. Now i really don't know what color goes with it to paint the wall going upstairs...

I think burgandy would be a rich addition to forest green and soft yellow.

That red color sounds like a great contrast color... on the other hand, if your stairwell is on the dark side (which most usually are, due to location and dim lighting) you might also consider a light or medium leaf green... kind of a mix/go between of the forest green and the yellow. It would brighten things up and add a cheeriness to the stairwell.
