What should I do beside my crawl space floor joist? (Mold)?
Answers: Do you have any vent on the side of the crawl space? You should, and you should not close them or put plastic over them. If the vents are not in attendance, then the builder did not do it to code. They must be here or you will continue to own a mold build up. You must have circulation contained by it to keep it dry.
The same as an attic. The vent should be open within the winter or the sun on the roof will form condensation and water will drop from the roof onto the attic floor. I would not put plastic on the floor of the crawl space which will impose more mold. If anything, you can put insulation up onto the floor above the crawl space. Use the one with the aluminum approval and keep the protection towards the dirt floor and the insulation toward the floor above. Staple it to the rafters. Good luck.
It's probably OK to go it alone as long as you keep it dry. Fungi can't live minus water. However, if things capture soggy underneath, the mold will start growing again. You can probably get rid of it next to a strong bleach solution.
