Foam/Fake Crown Molding?
We priced out Home depot and Loews and find that it will cost well within to the thousands to do our entire home. Althought we are very handy (we've painted the baseboards and door trim and it turned out amazing i might add) we are concerned we will receive in over our head.
So ,I've found this website http://foamcrownmolding.com/
I've placed an order to do ONLY ONE room contained by our home to ensure it doesn't look cheap. I'd like some thoughts on this. I read if we where going to flog the home soon we wouldn't want to skimp on it on do it right. But we plan on being here for a very long time and who know what our taste will be 20 years from very soon. I see spending the 2000 now on wood would be a misuse of money cosidering we are not moving. Thoughts?
Answers: I would limit the project to basically the family rooms similar to the living room, dining rooms, and possibly kitchen. Doing it yourself will save profusely off of the final price. If you are unsure almost being competent to cut the corners you can get corner blocks that hand over you a flat surface to butt your molding against, that way adjectives your cuts will be 90 degree cuts. The blocks can be attractive and I know Home Depot carries them.
If you hold been watching This Old House, you will enjoy seen that they are using the foam moldings, finding them dimensionally stable and trouble-free to install.
I personally consider that putting crown molding in a house that is to say not built overall with that sympathetic of detail will be a glaring mistake. The fact that similar or related moldings are unused with baseboard, wainscotting, stairs, window, etc., will make the crown stand out as an rebel.
