How do i check the compressor with a voltmeter on a portable Kenmore dehumidifier?

You can check the continuity of the two windings with an ohmmeter or a multimeter set on the ohms scale. Touch one post of the compressor with one test lead and the other two posts with the other test lead one at a time. you should get continuity on both posts if you do not it is time for a new unit. You also can test for a short by touching one of the posts with one test lead and the casing or tubing with the other test lead. You should not get a continuity reading or the compressor is shorted to ground(time for a new unit).
