The front end loader on my John Deere tractor has less "lift" than I would think - could it be a leak?

I don't know if I'm just hitting the max power on the loader or if there is a problem - but I would think hydrolics backed by 90 horse should be able to lift the world!

There are a couple things that could be the problem.... the first thing I would look at is the filters... plugged filters restrict flow and can reduce lift capabilities due to internal pump cavitation. Second is the port pressure relief valve. On JD products its located under an acorn nut on the spool (control) valve. If you make any adjustments to it remember this... only turn it in a 1/4 turn at a time in the clockwise direction. And last but not least... an internal leak... either in the lift cylinders or in the vanes or gears of the pump (depending on the year and model of the tractor). You can do a simple test on the system by lifting the bucket (empty) and see if it drops any over a ten minute period with the engine running... then do it again with the engine off. This will help determine if you have internal leakage. Hope that helps you out.

It might be a leak. But it might be that you're just thinking wrong.

it shoul lift tha back of the trackto up so get it checked
You might just need to check the fluid level.Even a tiny leak over time will lower the level.
I will ask my John Deere Parts manager/mechanic this pm. I know he will know the answer for sure.
my husband said check the hydrolic fluids, they could just be low or you may have a leak. He said if you have a leak and you raise the loader you see the fluid squirt out. Hope this helps.
the hydraulic oil may need to be changed, also filter too. this oil becomes weak with age and you should change it as often as the maintenance manual tells you. Don't have one? call a J.D. dealer and order one for your model tractor. You will need to go there anyway for the new H.D. oil. be sure the new H.D. oil matches the spec's for your tractor model. be sure to copy all numbers from your tractor and take them with you to the dealer. good luck!

It could be a leek or some other vegetable has got lodged in the traction snelfter - radishes are particularly troublesome , but they make up for this with their extreme culinary flexibility .
sounds like youre tractor needs new hydraulic packings. This is a job for a shop unless you are really mechanically inclined and have a well equipped shop.
either leaking somewhere or you may need rebuild or new hydraulic pump
