we have tiled the floor with white tiles grouted in black. cannot remove black film! what can you recomend?
Answers:
Stay away from muriatic acid if possible. If you are going to try any acid, start with using vinegar, which will usually do the trick. If that doesn't work, try sulfamic acid, which you can buy in any home store tile section -- follow directions and wear gloves.
Other answers:
A mild solution of Muratic Acid- use rubber gloves.

Had you properly wiped grout residue off as it was in the drying process the "film" would eventually be no more than a powder that would wipe away with normal, tile floor, cleaning.
Dilluted muriatic acid will certainly help, but is dangerous, especially in a home. Regarding the "rubber gloves",,,no offense to that answer, but I'd check the qualities of the gloves used to determine if in fact they will hold up to contact with the acid.

I have to agree with everwolf. I'ld be cautious of the muriatic acid and might even suggest you try a milder solution of phosforic acid first. However "Aquamix" makes a great product called " Grout Haze remover" and "Tec" makes an equally as good product called "Banish". Both work wonders at removing grout haze and residues.
Aquamix is available via all your local home centers while the Tec's Banish" is probably only going to be available via a reputable tile and setting materials supplier.
In all honesty I'ld suggest you try either of the two first rather than the acid solutions .Also, the acid solutions will have a tendancy to lighten the existing grout as well.
Hope this info has been usefull to you.
Good Luck
Bleach maybe?
continue sponge and water clean up, again and again. keep your sponge and water clean.
Muriatric acid seems a bit of an overkill to me, though it will do the job. If you can get hold of it, try a bit of neat acetone. Failing that just good old elbow grease and a sponge with warm soapy water should do it.
